5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight
Trust is a risk. Trust is the only way love works.
Trust <> risk <> vulnerability <> faithfulness <> intimacy
Lack of Trust shows itself in:
Scepticism – fence sitting, doesn’t want to risk trusting. Sceptics are afraid to make decisions eg Thomas is a sceptic (Jn 20: 25) Sceptics are so afraid of being wrong they won’t trust God – unlike Thomas who was honest and real with Jesus.
Cynicism – offers conclusions. Cynics make up their minds before questions have been asked e.g. Pontius Pilate who avoided responsibility (Matt 27:24) Our generation’s cycnic says ‘whatever’. The danger of cynicism is that it avoids an answer. When you feel cynicism take it as an opportunity to deal with issues.
Unbelief – the refusal to trust. It is not uncertainty in the intellect. It is a settled decision of our will. Unbelievers are afraid of what will happen to them if they trust God eg King Saul. What do you really want to be true? If you want badly enough not to believe – you won’t.
Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart;
don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he’s the one who will keep you on track.
