A red rose for faithfulness
On Sunday, Feb 14, I arrived home to find a beautiful red rose on my door step, accompanied by a card that said: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness”. Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV).
Interestingly, the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) puts it this way: I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.
I have absolutely no idea who sent it / put it there. However, I knew these were the words of God and was greatly moved by the gesture and the giver’s intent of affirming how much I am (and all of us are) loved by God.
God’s faithfulness can be expressed in so many ways and gestures like this can have a long lasting impact. The opportunity to also be faithful for God can be expressed by sharing the story of God’s love with my neighbours, with you, with friends and family. Openly, or quietly and anonymously What ways might you demonstrate God’s faithfulness this week?
Let us pray: God of love and beauty. You show your faithfulness in so many ways and I pray that we might openly accept your gifts of love, and in response share it with others. Amen
