Make A Move For Mental Health

Make A Move For Mental Health

1 in 4 young Australians is currently experiencing a mental health difficulty. But there’s an even bigger problem: 70% of those who need help don’t get it. And, suicide remains the leading cause of death of young Aussies. In 2019, 461 young people in Australia died by suicide.

And those numbers are based on 2019, which means it doesn’t take into consideration the impact that the Lockdowns and Covid19 are having on us too.

Which is why we decided to do something proactive that both supports ReachOut and encourages us, and our girls, to establish a commitment to practices that will help promote mental wellbeing.

Every day for the month of October, We will be working on our wellbeing while fundraising to prevent youth suicide.

ReachOut helps young people get well, be well and stay well, provides connection and shared stories through peer support, and builds confidence to seek professional help, if needed.

And your moves can help support the work of ReachOut to reach more.

You, as an individual, can join our state team but we encourage you to ask your girls and other members of your leadership team to join both you and us in this too.

The challenge is as simple as just dedicating 15, 30 or 60 minutes to improving your wellbeing every day throughout October. You can challenge yourself with physical activities like running, or with self-care activities like meditation; either way you’ll be doing something positive to help young people while, hopefully, helping you too and modelling positive mental health practices.
