About Us

Roots

The Girls’ Life Brigade started in Queensland in 1949. The first Company met at the Rosalie Baptist Church.

Growth

Since the first Company, many others have opened throughout Queensland. Companies have existed throughout the State, from Mount Isa and Cairns in the north, out to Millmerran in the west and down to the southern Gold Coast. Companies have changed over the years as the Community need changes, including launching an online Company in 2019. The Girls’ Brigade Queensland is focused on what it can do to support the community around it, by partnering with local churches to assist in identified ways.

Structure

Companies across Queensland have Captains, who oversee the running and are ultimately responsible for the Company, accountable to the State body and local Church. There are also a number of Leaders and Assistant Leaders who support and meet with the girls’ on a regular basis. A Chaplain is appointed for each Company. This is someone recognised by both the local church and GB Qld who is appointed to provide Spiritual guidance and support to the Leaders, girls and families alike.

Companies are grouped geographically into areas called Regions. Each Region is supported by a Regional Commissioner and executive team.

Regional Commissioners represent their region on State Council. This group of people meet up to 6 times a year and is made up of not only the Regional Commissioners, but also Committee chairs and the State Executive. This Council is overseen by the State Commissioner, who is supported by a Treasurer, Secretary and Deputies.

The State Commissioner also oversees the work of the GB Qld State Office. This is the base for the GB Qld shop, State Training, Accounts, supporting Committees, Events and Companies.
