Chaplain’s Chat

Rise in Strength & make disciplesDallas Willard’s book, ‘The Great Omission’ has been challenging me more and more about discipleship. While discussing about spiritual disciplines and the importance of going deeper into the teachings of Jesus, the word ‘information’ jumped out at me. But rather than the usual way of writing the word – what I saw was ‘in-formation’.

This has been one of those epiphany kind of moments. Not a dictionary definition of the word – but a ‘God teaching me’ moment.

What I allow to go ‘in’ my mind, contributes to my ‘formation’. What I take in via my senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch, even taste, impacts my mind, my emotions, my attitudes, my body, my soul. How I interact in the world, with people, God, creation, is greatly influenced by the ‘information’ around me, what I read, what I watch, etc.

Paul writes that Jesus is the source of all wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2:2-8)

As a disciple I (we) need to growing in confidence towards all that we say and do, is done in the name of Jesus. (Colossians 3:17) May people see Jesus in us, through the fruit of the spirit (read Galatians 5:22-23) being developed in our lives. May the process of formation and transformation be uplifting and give us strength to be the people God designed us to be.

Blessings
